this sat was a japanese tradition. you eat a bean for every year you've been alive, eat an uncut maki sushi roll while facing west, then someone has to dress up like an oni so you can throw the extra beans at them to chase out the bad spirits and bring in good luck. this coincides with the pagan Imbolc and the equinox; it's interesting how similar shinto and paganism can be.
a pretty part of tokushima. you cross this river to get to the drinking district from the station.
