very serious, like a samuri
the winning school (which i'll be practicing with)
pretty diversion for water
these flowers are everywhere. the leaves make me think that they're part of the carrot family.
lovely sky, yes?
yes, the sign says that the green, murky water is bad, i think that i'll believe them... FOR NOW!!!
not the usual buddha. three faces and many arms, i wonder what/who it is?

Buddha statute: generally when they have that many arms it is representing the buddhas limitless capacity and commitment to helping other beings. Each hand gestures represents qualties of the buddha or principles in buddhism. The palms facing together and in front of the heart is actually rare to find on a buddha because it is a sign of respect and greeting among equals. I don't remember what the three heads mean, but i probably have it in an old textbook. The footprint on the main head represents the impact of the teachings of the Buddha on the world. It is probably an early image influenced by india because it is not a human representation of buddha. Japan usually has human images of buddha where india likes the many heads and arms thing. Bet you were not expecting me to tell you all that!

and derek's mom gave me the scoop on those pretty purple flowers:

"They are in the Cosmos family and are a wild flower. I have them in my garden and they are late bloomers and quite hardy and cold resistant. They are considered a self-seeding annual. Very pretty to look at when all of the other plants have gone to seed…"

horray for new knowledge! thanks ladies! ;)
